NOTCHILLEDDVS
Assetto Corsa newcomer guide

From zero to racing on screen or in VR

This page is for Windows players who are brand new to the whole chain: Assetto Corsa, Content Manager, CSP and Pure. Whether you want to race on a normal screen or in VR, this gets you to the same place first. If your goal is "I just want this working so I can join ChilledDVS without guessing", you are in the right place.

01

What you need before starting

These names will make a lot more sense once you know what each piece actually does.

Goal

Understand the stack so the install flow feels logical instead of random.

What each thing is

  • Assetto Corsa: the actual game. This is your base install and needs to work first.
  • Content Manager: the launcher most people use instead of the stock AC launcher. It makes installs, settings and joining servers much easier.
  • CSP: Custom Shaders Patch. It adds the rendering and system features that modern AC setups rely on.
  • Pure: the weather and graphics package that sits on top of CSP and makes the visuals look right.
  • Screen play: the simplest path. If you just want to get on track fast, get the flat-screen setup healthy first.
  • VR: the headset side of the chain. VR usually breaks when the game, CM, CSP, Pure or runtime are not aligned.

Quick success check

+You know the order now: AC first, then CM, then CSP, then Pure, then your chosen display mode, then mods and servers.
02

Install Assetto Corsa cleanly

The game has to run once on its own before the rest of the stack behaves properly.

Action

  1. Install Assetto Corsa through Steam.
  2. Let Steam finish completely before you launch anything else.
  3. Start the game once with the normal launcher, get to the menu, then close it.
  4. If Steam offers file verification or first-run installs, let those finish first.

Why this matters

That first launch creates the base folders and config files CM and CSP expect to find later.

Quick success check

+The stock game reached its main menu once and closed without crashing.
03

Install and point Content Manager at AC

From here on out, Content Manager becomes your main control panel.

Action

  1. Download Content Manager from acstuff.club/app.
  2. Open it and let it detect your Assetto Corsa install.
  3. If it does not detect AC automatically, point it at your Steam Assetto Corsa folder manually.
  4. Open CM once and confirm it can see your cars, tracks and game install.

Quick success check

+CM opens normally and shows your Assetto Corsa install instead of asking for a missing game path.

If this failed

CM opens but AC will not launch: re-check the Assetto Corsa path inside CM and make sure the base game launched successfully in Step 2 first.

04

Install CSP through the AC Stuff ecosystem

CSP is the layer that unlocks the modern rendering and feature set most servers and visual mods expect.

Action

  1. Use the AC Stuff / x4fab ecosystem for CSP rather than random mirrors.
  2. Inside CM, install or update CSP using the built-in integration.
  3. Once installed, reopen CM so the patch is loaded cleanly into the launcher.

Why this matters

Pure and a lot of newer graphics features depend on CSP being installed and detected correctly first.

Quick success check

+CM now exposes CSP-related settings instead of acting like the patch is missing.
05

Install and activate Pure

Pure is what makes the weather and overall image quality look correct once CSP is already in place.

Action

  1. Get Pure from Peter Boese's official Patreon source: patreon.com/peterboese.
  2. Install it the way the package instructions say, then go back into CM.
  3. In CM, select Pure as your active weather / graphics solution wherever that choice is exposed.
  4. Launch a simple offline session once to verify the game still boots and the visuals are stable.

Quick success check

+The game launches after the Pure install and you can see the weather/lighting stack behaving normally instead of defaulting to a broken look.

If this failed

Pure looks inactive or broken: check that CSP was already installed first, then re-check the active weather selection in CM rather than guessing in random menus.

06

Choose your display mode: screen or VR

Flat-screen is the simplest path. VR is completely fine too, but it adds one more layer that has to be aligned cleanly.

Action

  1. If you are a screen player, keep the game in normal monitor mode and launch a light offline session once.
  2. If you are a VR player, start your headset software first so the PCVR runtime is already active before launching AC.
  3. Inside CM, switch the game output to the mode you actually plan to use instead of leaving it half-configured.
  4. If you use OpenXR or SteamVR, keep that choice consistent instead of switching runtimes back and forth mid-setup.

Why this step matters

Screen players can usually move on quickly here. VR adds another moving part on top of AC, CM, CSP and Pure, so if one layer is half-configured, VR is often where the failure becomes obvious.

Quick success check

+Your chosen play mode works in an offline session: monitor output for screen players, proper headset output for VR players.
07

Download the cars and tracks our servers use

This is the part that stops "missing content" errors before they happen.

Action

  1. Open the ChilledDVS downloads page.
  2. Download the mod packs you need for the server you want to join.
  3. Install them through CM or into the correct AC content folders.
  4. Let CM finish processing the content before you try to join online.

Quick success check

+The needed cars and tracks show up inside CM instead of only existing as zip files in your Downloads folder.

If this failed

Server says missing content: the files are either not installed yet or they were dropped into the wrong place. Check inside CM that the actual car and track entries exist.

Small human note

If a car or track link is missing, ChilledDVS is genuinely sorry. He works full-time as an HVAC and ventilation technician, so sometimes he is running on fumes and still trying his best to keep everything updated.

08

Join ChilledDVS the easy way

Once the stack is good, the website already gives you the clean last-mile join flow.

Action

  1. Go back to the main site server browser.
  2. Pick a server you actually have the content for.
  3. Use the Join via CM button on that server card.
  4. Let Content Manager handle the final handoff into the game.

Quick success check

+Clicking a server card's join button opens Content Manager instead of leaving you stuck in the browser.

What kind of servers we run

ChilledDVS is not one single server type. The racing side mixes a few different moods, so pick the one that sounds fun instead of assuming every lobby behaves the same way.

  • Trackday / free roam: relaxed traffic-style driving, cruising, testing cars, or just doing laps at your own pace.
  • Grip / hotlap: cleaner pace-focused driving where people are mostly chasing consistency and lap time.
  • Drift / touge: more sideways, more style, more chaos, usually less about one perfect lap.
  • Formula / race servers: faster, more serious rhythm, and usually the place where lap-time comparisons matter most.

The website server list is there to help you read the room first: check the server name, track, car pack and vibe before you click join.

How our leaderboards work

Our leaderboards are tied to specific servers and they are fed by real lap data coming from those server folders, not by one giant global score for everything on the site.

  • Per server: each server keeps its own rankings, so a Nordschleife trackday board is separate from an F1 or drift server.
  • Best valid lap wins: the site keeps the best valid time it sees for each driver on that server.
  • Updated from server data: the website reads the server lap files and refreshes what you see on the leaderboard views.
  • Impossible times get filtered: obviously broken laps do not belong on the board, so nonsense records are filtered out.

So if you switch servers, think of that as switching to a different board. You are comparing yourself against the people who drove that exact combo, not every car on every server at once.

If this failed

Join via CM does nothing: make sure CM is installed, associated correctly on your PC, and already capable of launching the game locally.

09

Common fixes only

These are the usual blockers. If your issue is weirder than this, ask in Discord with the step number you reached.

Most common blockers

  • CM installed, AC not launching: re-check the game path in CM and confirm the stock game launched once first.
  • CSP or Pure seems inactive: check the actual active selection inside CM instead of assuming the package install alone did the job.
  • VR headset not detected: open the headset runtime first, then launch from CM after the runtime is already alive.
  • Black screen or broken graphics: go back one layer at a time - first verify AC launches, then CM, then CSP, then Pure, then your chosen output mode.
  • Missing mods when joining: confirm the content is visible inside CM, not just downloaded as archives.
  • Join flow does nothing: CM is either not associated properly or not healthy enough to launch AC yet.

Quick success check

+You can name the layer that is failing instead of saying "everything is broken". That makes fixes much faster.
Ready to race

Once this chain is working, the fun part is easy

You do not need to rebuild this setup every time. Once AC, CM, CSP, Pure and your chosen display mode are all behaving, your normal loop becomes: grab the needed mods, open the server browser, click Join via CM, race.
